ici Barbes is proud to be once more this year partnering with the Surfrider Foundation Europe.

It has been calculated that there are up to 51 trillion plastic particles polluting the ocean right from the surface to the deepest depths. The environmental impact is catastrophic for the marine ecosystem as well as for our health.

For sharing across social networks, The Drop has been conceived and created by ici Barbes for the Surfrider Foundation Europe to raise awareness and the profile of the issue of plastic microbeads with the general public. It also aims to alert politicians, opinion leaders and legislators as to the urgency of banning the systematic use of microplastics in our everyday products.

Produced and directed by Paul Mignot, based on music by SebastIAN, who generously gave the rights to the film (Ed Banger records), The Drop adopts a sober and elegant creative style. The initial images, entirely designed in 3D by Digital District, reveal a magical universe in which millions of points of light are sparkling. The camera then quickly pulls back and takes the viewer out of this micro-world, revealing in a macroscopic view, a drop of water being thrown up by a wave.

The film's signature is “There are 500 times more microplastics particles in the ocean than there are stars in the galaxy,” thus comparing the infinitely small to the infinitely large. This powerful and original creative territory aims to raise awareness that it is time to act concretely at a European level to transform a situation that endangers both our health and the global marine ecosystem.

Remi Sico de Surfrider Foundation Europe said:

“We really wanted to shake up the general public and the legislators, pushing them to do something about this problem. What The Drop illustrates makes all the difference: the result of the systematic and damaging use of microplastic beads on aquatic life can finally be seen concretely.”
