The Bigger Picture Welcomes Noted Director/Cinematographer Sean Thonson

Jul. 15, 2024

The Bigger Picture is thrilled to announce that award-winning Director/Cinematographer Sean Thonson has joined the company’s talent roster. Thonson is a cinematic force, a creative innovator and a genre defining director for whom chasing light is an art and calling. Throughout his career, Sean has directed spots for virtually every prestigious automaker, along with a long list of clients that includes food and beverage, fashion, lifestyle, sports, among many others.

The Bigger Picture founder/EP Tracy Mays noted:

“This is a human experience business, and my priority and value is fostering meaningful connections and lasting relationships with both clients and directors. Sean is someone who matches an adventurous spirit and powerful directing talent with incredible business savvy. Just as important, he cares deeply about the people he works with and that creates a very special experience on set.”

As a director and a cinematographer, Sean is the creative eye behind the camera, the empathetic soul guiding the actors, and an idea machine always turned on. Collaboration is more than a meeting of the minds: it’s an adventure and a joy. He believes that creativity is always personal and informed by your character and a heartfelt belief that people matter, that ideas count, and that the best work comes when you leave your ego at the door.

Sean explained:

“Tracy and I have known each other for a long time, and I know the integrity and care she brings to the work and her company. In that respect, it’s really a creative partnership that comes at a very right time for my career and the industry. We share a very similar philosophy about life and making a mark that resonates on screen and off.”

With a probing vision and unyielding curiosity, Sean is equally comfortable with designed and scripted broadcast commercials as he is with online branded docu-style content. That part of his repertoire has been informed by personal documentary work, including several award winning short films about the people and places he’s discovered while traveling the world. Sean is an ardent outdoorsman and environmentalist, and is committed to the simple premise that one has to try to make the world a better place. His work reflects all of these things, pushing him into new realms and new possibilities.

In name and design, The Bigger Picture is fertile creative ground for a carefully curated roster of leading and emerging filmmakers, combining the highest level of production with personalized service. Based in LA, The Bigger Picture also offers a global scope with key creative alliances including Clockwork Films, the award-winning company in Sydney, Perth, Auckland, London and Cape Town.

Tracy concluded:

"So many people will tell you there is a “right” way to do it, because that’s how all successful people in the industry have always done it. Do your best to not listen to that voice – it’s alright to make up your own approach and follow your gut. The world needs more disruptors who bring something new to the table. Innovation gains traction during challenging times, and these times call for it."
