Top 10 Super Bowl Ads of 2017

Feb. 08, 2017

The annual Super Bowl football game in the United States is known as the most famed advertising event on television – with an audience of over 180 million. Studies show that almost one-quarter (24%) of those only tuned in to see the advertisements while only 43% feel that the game itself is most important.

Approaches to ads may not have changed, much, but prices have: the average rate for a 30-second spot in the Super Bowl has doubled over the past ten years, from $2.4 million in 2007 to $5 million this year for per 30-second spot. Hence, Super Bowl ads are a battle for creativeness and millions of users are looking forward to them to see how creative they are.

Several brands have been broadcasting their ads before the Super Bowl this year and of these 14 brands Skittles’ “Romance” was the top-performing spot in terms of earned views (close to 1 million). This tactic can have some benefits: 7 of the 10 most-shared Super Bowl ads last year were aired prior to the Super Bowl.

There are generally around 10 first-time advertisers each year, representing around one-quarter of advertising brands.

Over the past ten years auto manufacturers have been the most likely to buy spots in the Super Bowl with 8 brands this year. It shows that auto brands have been successful in generating social media following and engagement from their TV ads.

Of these really admirable works we have picked up 10 in our opinion best Super Bowl commercials which are as follows:

  •  Kia: Hero’s Journey stars Melissa McCarthy as an environmentalist who tries to save a whale, a falling tree and a charging rhinoceros, with some funny moments.
  • Skittles: Romance represents a guy repeatedly tossing the candy into his lover's window. The later catches them in her mouth, and then so do many of others including family members, policeman and a thief.
  • It's a 10 Hair Care: Four More Years indicates the company's extension into the male hair category with the launch of the "He's a 10" collection. President Trump's hair had its role on this ad as well.
  • Squarespace: johnmalkovich.com stars actor John Malkovich, who was in Squarespace's recent ad "Journey" as well. Mr. Malkovich is talking on the phone to whoever has already bought the domain name johnmalkovich.com in his design studio and trying to get it for himself.
  • Mercedes-Benz: Easy Rider contains Peter Fonda, Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" and references to the 1969 classic flick "Easy Rider".
  • Mr. Clean: Cleaner of Your Dreams shows a woman and a sexy animated version of Mr. Clean, who then transforms into her husband, who has been assisting with everyday tasks.
  • Ford: Go Further endorses Ford's growing ride-sharing and bike sharing services by way of proceeding its positioning as a "mobility" company, not just an automaker.
