TIM Telecom Distributes Pin that Block Lost Phones During Music Festivals and Carnival in Brazil
Mar. 12, 2025
TIM, one of the largest telecom operators in Brazil, leveraged its presence at one of the country’s largest music festivals, which attracts over 40,000 people, to launch a technological innovation aimed at enhancing security in large crowds and protecting its clients' data on mobile phones.
As one of the main sponsors of the Festival de Verao Salvador (Salvador Summer Festival) for the third consecutive year, the company developed and introduced a high-tech pin to the public, designed to do more than just complete the party look. The technological pin automatically locks the smartphone remotely, ensuring a safer and more connected experience for partygoers by reducing the impact on those who lose their devices.
The TIM Block Pin can be used by customers of any carrier on Android and iOS smartphones. Developed as an additional layer of security, it works in conjunction with a free app. Users can easily activate the protection, connecting the pin to their phones via Bluetooth and pinning it to their clothing to enjoy the event with peace of mind. In just a few minutes, the device is protected. If the pin is moved more than 10 meters away from the registered smartphone, an audible alarm is triggered on both devices, and the phone’s screen is automatically locked, preventing access to apps and other important user data.
The Block Pin was conceived by BETC HAVAS in partnership with the creative technology boutique 20Dash. During the music festival, TIM launched the new feature, which was distributed through activations at the brand's stand. Interested individuals were instructed to follow messages on the stand's screen and sign up via a QR code to win the pin.
Following the proven success of the activation, the company has recently significantly increased the distribution of its exclusive wearable device for free, at the two largest Carnival celebrations in Brazil: the street parades in Rio de Janeiro and the street festivities in Salvador. The brand also partnered with renowned Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo, who attracts thousands of people to the streets. She has been highlighting the importance of connectivity and security for the public on her social media, encouraging her fans to secure the accessory.
The TIM Block Pin became an object of desire and demonstrated how technology, combined with creativity, can transform the experience of people at major events, especially in a country with a high incidence of phone theft.
More than just a branding action or a way to complement the Carnival ‘look,’ or strengthening TIM’s connection to music, the TIM Block Pin has proven to be a solution that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.
By offering enhanced security, this innovation reinforces TIM’s commitment to providing connectivity that elevates the audience's experience at music events through technology, besides helping people enjoy the events to the fullest while staying connected to TIM’s 5G network, with a reliable ally in case they get separated from their device.
