Snapchat Launches Snap Sports Network with Golden LA

Aug. 07, 2024

Snapchat premieres the wonderfully weird series: Snap Sports Network. Directed by Golden LA’s Tim K, the hilariously unintense sports and competition segments debuted on Snapchat on July 19th, with episodes airing through August 6.

Built on connectivity and user creativity, Snapchat found the nexus of what makes their app great and the shared passion points of sports, human ingenuity, and weird internet videos with the creation of Snap Sports Network. By engaging the community of Snapchatters with original content, it was built as a catalyst for engagement, enhancing what makes Snapchat great. With augmented reality Lenses from Mousepack in association with Snapchat that were designed to bring Snap Sports Network to life, Snapchatters can participate in their own way. Hosted by Snap stars Kris London and Rachel Pizzolato with field reporters Rachel DeMita and Tony Talks, the Snap Sports Network is set to bring delightful counter-complimentary programming to Snapchatters to balance out the pomp and circumstance of the summer games with something refreshingly chaotic and fun.

Snap Sports Network is a curated blend of authentic user-generated Snaps, on-location coverage of offbeat sports, professional pillow fighting, hobby horsing, and gurning to name a few, and a series of multi-level 'curveball' games thoughtfully composed and directed by Golden LA’s Tim K, who also served as showrunner. A scripted show that’s one of a kind, Tim K orchestrated the many elements that needed to come together to make Snap Sports Network a success, including casting influencers, live-action production, and direct collaboration with Snap. Snap Sports Network celebrates the spirit of competition and the fascinating antics people get into in the name of sports with this wildly unserious series.

Series director and showrunner Tim K remarked:

“I literally don’t know why someone would watch another sports show when Pillow Fighting Championships are a thing. Snap Sports Network is something I could genuinely see myself watching and enjoying. Sometimes the stuff is epic, and sometimes it’s silly, but it’s endlessly fun and even weirdly inspiring to watch because it shows us what people can accomplish when they are crazy enough to try.”

Eric Fensler, Creative Director at Snapchat added:

“It’s been great to see our community connecting through their passion points, like sports. Snap Sports Network is unique in that any Snapchatter  can use these lenses to make their own sports show from wherever they are—leveraging the tools we had to create the series.
