McCann London fights fake news with newly designed IPSO logo
Dec. 05, 2017
McCann London has designed the new mark for The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), an eye-catching visual symbol that can be used by all its publications to show their commitment to professional standards and accountability.
In an era where the public’s trust in journalism has been undermined because of the rise of ‘fake news’, the new IPSO mark is a way in which the 2,500 newspapers, magazines and websites can show that they embrace high editorial standards and public accountability.
As a purveyor of a Truth Well Told, McCann London was particularly excited about this project and designed a paired back Rosette device that is graphic, simple and proud. Including the strapline ‘For press freedom with responsibility’, the tangible logo was designed to reflect IPSO’s existing brand identity and to be legible at small sizes, both on paper stock and digital display.
Commenting on the announcement, IPSO’s Chief Executive, Matt Tee said:
“The newspaper and magazine industry faces a number of complex challenges over the short term and I firmly believe that one of the ways in which it can thrive and prosper is by its commitment to independent, effective regulation. We think McCann has perfectly designed a mark that many of our member publications will proudly display on their pages.”
Mike Oughton, Creative Director at McCann London said:
“We’ve enjoyed collaborating with the team at IPSO on this project. These are times when misinformation is influencing world events. It is, therefore, more important than ever that we have a free press – holding lots of different opinions and beliefs - that conducts itself responsibly”.
McCann looks forward to continuing its relationship with IPSO in the new year, to further raise awareness of IPSO’s work and inform the public and stakeholders about the services it offers.
