Invisible Collective Welcomes Director Lindsay Sunada
May. 05, 2026
Invisible Collective welcomes director Lindsay Sunada, a Hawaii-based filmmaker whose work blends magical realism with a deeply personal, visually driven approach to storytelling. Often exploring the human experience through a female gaze, her cinematic style can be seen in standout work for eBay, Hilton/Waldorf Astoria, EOS, California Naturals, Turtle Bay Resorts, and more.
Sunada’s path into directing began in the art department, where she worked as a production designer, art director, and set dresser after graduating from Loyola Marymount University. That foundation continues to shape her perspective behind the camera, informing a process rooted in world-building, vibrant colors, and small details that deepen a story.
Sunada shared:
“I wasn’t just looking for representation. I was looking for a place to put down roots and grow as a creative. Invisible genuinely champions their directors, and from our very first conversation, it felt like the right place to be. I’m also a firm believer that what separates emerging directors from the heavy hitters isn’t talent, but access and opportunity. Finding a company that shares that belief makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more excited to begin this next chapter with them.”
Her work is also shaped by her multicultural background and surroundings. Of Taiwanese and Japanese descent, with multigenerational roots in Hawaii, Sunada draws from a unique blend of influences, from East Asian folktales to her passion for the outdoors, and the complexity of the human experience. In 2022, she was named a Shiny Awards New Director Role Model and selected for MiFilm’s Commercial Directing Fellowship. In 2024, she was one of six fellows chosen for the AICP x DGA CDDP program.
Invisible EP Sam Kelly Jr. said:
"Lindsay is an incredible signing for us. We first connected through the DGA’s CDDP program, and I was immediately struck not only by her professional initiative but by her versatile command of the craft. As a director, writer, and designer, she approaches every project with a rare blend of artistic flair, vivid imagery, and sharp intention. We are thrilled to have her on board."
In addition to her directing work, Sunada is currently editing her first novel, a YA fantasy that tackles contemporary issues through the lens of Japanese folklore, continuing to expand her storytelling across formats.
