Grey Mexico, Articulo 19, and Diario La Union Launch a Powerful Print Campaign
Apr. 23, 2025
As part of the broader initiative “The Shooting” by Artículo 19—launched with a powerful short film created by Grey México and Oriental Films—a new print campaign is now being unveiled to raise awareness about the constant threats and violence journalists face in Mexico.
Since the year 2000, the non-profit organization Artículo 19 has documented 171 journalist murders in Mexico, all potentially related to their work. The most recent case is that of Raúl Irán Villarreal Belmont, who was murdered on March 13, 2025, in Guanajuato.
This second phase of the campaign, developed by Grey México and supported by Diario La Unión, aims to ignite public demand and institutional accountability to protect freedom of expression—now in a deeply fragile state.
Alexis Ospina, Chief Creative Officer of Grey México said:
"Journalists in Mexico live and work as if in a war zone. That’s incredibly striking, especially considering we’re not officially at war. We wanted to reflect that terrifying reality in every execution."

Comprising four striking print ads, the campaign illustrates the brutal reality of journalist murders and disappearances in a country that has become one of the most dangerous places in the world to report the truth—where a journalist is attacked every 14 hours, and where truth itself is not bulletproof.
Leopoldo Maldonado, Regional Director of Artículo 19 for Mexico and Central America said:
"With The Shooting, we aim to raise awareness in every corner of the country about what our fellow journalists are enduring. This campaign is once again a call to action against impunity."
