From Brazil to the World: Football Legend Leonidas da Silva Honored in New Jersey

An iconic gesture captured in mid-air. A globally recognized trademark. An idol who inspired generations. The striking blue, the unmistakable yellow, and the profound black that leaves no doubt about his legacy.
On the eve of the world’s premier sporting event, Volt Sport presents Brazilian fans and international enthusiasts with a jersey line featuring a 100% Brazilian identity, honoring Leônidas da Silva, known as the "Black Diamond." The "Silva" collection pays homage to the legendary striker immortalized by the bicycle kick (overhead kick) and the top scorer—as well as the best player—of the 1938 World Cup, becoming the first Brazilian to achieve such a feat. Often described as "Pelé before Pelé," Leônidas remains the primary reference for the era when Brazil first fell in love with football.
The pieces follow a retro aesthetic trend, available in three colors: blue, yellow (with green details), and a special black edition that refers to his "Black Diamond" nickname. Every item incorporates elements related to the striker, notably featuring the "Silva" on the front—a tribute to the millions of Brazilians who share the most common surname in the country. The central design element is the silhouette of the player executing the bicycle kick, accompanied by "1932," the year he first performed the move in a match while playing for Bonsucesso in Rio de Janeiro. The jerseys are now available at https://www.voltsport.com.br/marcas/silva.

Historian José Roberto Brandi dos Santos, grand-nephew of Leônidas da Silva said:
"This collection is remarkable. It is a tribute that reaffirms my great-uncle's importance as an athlete who transformed the perception of football in Brazil. Seeing his legacy preserved and perpetuated is a way of keeping the memory of the Black Diamond alive for new generations. These jerseys, launched just before the World Cup, allow fans to wear the essence of our football and reinforce the pride of our heritage."
Leônidas began his career at Bonsucesso and played for Peñarol in Uruguay before making history with major Brazilian clubs including Vasco da Gama, Botafogo, Flamengo, and São Paulo. He represented the Brazilian national team from 1932 to 1946, participating in the 1934 and 1938 World Cups. He holds the highest goal-scoring average in the history of the Brazilian soccer team, with 38 goals in 38 matches (some historians cite 37 goals in 37 matches). In addition to "Black Diamond," he was famously nicknamed the "Rubber Man" for his agility. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 90.
Headquartered in Santa Catarina, with a 100% Brazilian operation, Volt Sport is the official uniform provider for the Brazilian National Volleyball Team and produces kits for traditional football clubs such as Vitória, Fortaleza, and Remo. The new line dedicated to Leônidas da Silva is part of the brand's expansion strategy into products designed for both performance and lifestyle wear.
Fernando Kleimmann, managing partner of Volt Sport highlights:
"Leônidas da Silva symbolizes the essence of Brazilian football: creativity, boldness, and identity. Bringing his silhouette to this collection aligns with Volt’s mission to connect the past and the present, valuing a history that helped build what Brazil represents today on the pitch. We have been planning this collection for a long time, and the timing of this launch is ideal as fans seek the perfect jersey for football’s most important moment."
