Award Winning Production Company JOJX Welcomes Kirby McClure
Aug. 05, 2024
Award-winning production company JOJX welcomes Kirby McClure, aka Radical Friend, to its exceptional roster of directorial talent. With an elevated cinematic vocabulary, Radical Friend’s work is both kinetic and colorful, and character-driven—perfectly aligning Radical Friend with JOJX’s ethos of pushing filmmaking forward.
Rolling Stone recognized Radical Friend as an influential filmmaker in their “50 People Who Will Change the Future of Music.” He’s directed many mesmerizing MTV, VMA, and UK MVA-nominated music videos, working with provocative artists like Skrillex, Yeasayer, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and H09909. Radical Friend also directed the Charli XCX-scored, four-minute cinematic trailer for the Netflix series “Elite.” Currently, his feature film “Spaghetti Junction” is available to watch on Amazon. The film, which he also wrote, follows a disabled teenager in the Deep South who comes into contact with a cosmic traveler.
Radical Friend’s characters find themselves at home in deeply realized worlds from across the globe. As a director, he grounds his films in relatable, realistic performances and centers the performers’ ability to bring life to the characters in his stunning visual landscapes. Radical Friend previously worked with his partner Julia Grigorian. Together, they won a Webby Award and were tapped by Britney Spears to direct the darkly mysterious film announcing her return to the VMA stage in 2016. Other noteworthy projects of Radical Friend’s include the much-buzzed commercial film “Comeback” for KFC, which introduced Colonel Sanders with his iconic swagger as KFC's mascot in the UK. Radical Friend directed spots for additional top-tier brands, including AT&T, Taco Bell, Honda, Adidas, Instax, Chase Bank, Converse, and more.
Jackson Morton, partner and executive producer at JOJX, added:
“Radical Friend’s films are hypnotic on multiple levels. His incredible attention to detail and artistic nature engage all of your senses. He’s a director we knew would be immediately at home with JOJX—we have very similar values as filmmakers. He’s an innovator by nature, and we’re very excited to have him on our roster. Jackson [Morton] and Joe [Care] have an obvious passion and fire for making great work. I think we’re going to make some cool stuff together. I’m thrilled to join the JOJX family. I know I’m in great hands there as I continue to devote more time to my individual directing career.”
